Do you do surgery at your facility?

No, please. Firmer Eye Care is a PRIMARY EYE CARE facility. Anything beyond that, we refer to the appropriate quarters. Remember, the best doctors refer.

Will you attend to me when I call you outside of working hours?

It depends. If any of the doctors are available when you call, you will be seen at the clinic.

Why does my eyes itch occasionally even after using eye drops?

This is because, allergens cause allergies. The eye drops will cater for the ongoing allergic reaction when you present at the clinic but when you expose your eyes to the allergens again sometime later, you will experience that discomfort again. Identify your allergens and stay away from them. Allergens could be dust, dirt, pollen, smoke, strong chemicals, grass, etc

Can Glaucoma be treated once and for all?

Management for Glaucoma is lifelong.

What disease conditions cause blindness?

There are many causes of blindness but the commonest ones are Mature cataract (due for surgery), Glaucoma and uncorrected refractive error

Will reading in dim light affect my eyes?

It depends on how you look at it. However, reading in dim light is generally not advisable because in dim light, the pupils are dilated and so a lot of light enters the eyes which causes discomfort. You will require a lot more effort to read in dim light and this could cause headache and other asthenopic symptoms .

What kind of food is good for the eyes?

Mostly, fruits and vegetables are very good for the eyes; an apple a day, keeps the doctor away.

How often should I check my eyes?

It is recommended that you have an eye examination at least once every two years if you are young and have healthy eyes and once a year if you are above 60 years old.

I have to push my reading material further before I can see. What could be the problem?

Presbyopia. As we grow older, our eyes lose it’s ability to focus on near objects/prints. This usually happens from age 40, sometimes earlier, in the late 30s. Reading glasses will solve this problem.

I cannot see too well. What are the treatment options?

Treatment depends on the condition. For some conditions, you may need glasses, for others, you may need eye drops or surgery. In certain cases, you may need a combination of management protocols.
